OhioSMART September Third Saturday: Rope 101 and Ichinawa

Come get knotty in the dungeon! This rope 101 class will be a great place to start your journey with rope!

@emie-lou2 will be going over a single column tie, tension in rope, simple frictions, and adding rope to cover the basic fundamentals of tying! 

After we learn some basics, @east__ is going to make things very basic, with one rope. Ichinawa is a style of rope that focuses on connection, closeness, and building the experience more than perfect knots. He will show some basic knots, a little background of ichinawa, and demo with @emie-lou2 to show the differences between rope for rigging and decoration, and rope for connection. 

What is needed:

• Rope/Gear: 1-2 30’ hanks  - We have some to share if needed.  
• Safety: Shears/Cutting Tool
• Class Type: Hands On, Tie Along, Audit
• Class Setup: Mat/Ground Area/Chairs for auditing
• Prerequisite: NONE! This is a beginner friendly class

Remember to bring:

• A good attitude 
• Willingness to learn
• Easy clothes to move in
• Your photo ID

Want to be part of the Rope 101 volunteers? We need people to:

• Help set out mats and chairs (2 volunteers)

Want to volunteer in general? We need people for:

• Opening: which includes putting up signs, candy boxes, and first aid kits (Shifts start at 6:30 PM and go until 7:00 PM)
• Closing: which includes taking down signs, emptying trash, and putting away candy boxes/first aid kits (Shifts start at 12:30 am-ish and end when closing checklist is complete)
• Play Space Monitor Shifts: 30 minute to 2 hour shifts available. Act as a Play Space Monitor in the Main or Arch Dungeons. Pre-training required.

Schedule:

6:45 PM: Doors Open, Registration Opens

7:00 PM: Rope 101 begins in Arch

9:00 PM: Play Party begins

10:00 PM: Registration Closes, No Entry Permitted Past This Time

1:00 AM: Closing Time

Please note: We share our facility and parking lot with another club. On busy nights, a parking attendant in a safety vest may be present to direct your vehicle to park in a specific location. Please respect and follow the attendant's directions, thank you.
