Time for another movie night! We were planning on switching it up for v-day with Japanese gay romance flick Doukyuusei, but when we heard news of Hector Xtravaganza's passing, we simply HAD to bump Paris Is Burning up to the next movie night. The twist: both movies are only an hour long which means we get to do a DOUBLE FEATURE!
The door opens at 7pm - please plan to arrive at this time so you can check in and pick a comfortable seat and snacks - the movie will begin promptly at 7:15. Paris Is Burning will be up first, and then Doukyuusei second after a short intermission. Doors will close at 8pm as usual!

###Paris Is Burning (1990)
"Paris Is Burning is a 1990 American documentary film directed by Jennie Livingston. Filmed in the mid-to-late 1980s, it chronicles the ball culture of New York City and the African-American, Latino, gay, and transgender communities involved in it. Some critics consider the film to be an invaluable documentary of the end of the “Golden Age” of New York City drag balls, and a thoughtful exploration of race, class, gender, and sexuality in America."

###Doukyuusei (2016)
"The film follows the emotional journey of two teenage boys ... as they struggle to come to terms with their own romantic feelings and attempt to form a relationship despite what their society has taught them about homosexuality.
The animated film sports a unique art style, emulating a sort of watercolor aesthetic. The artistry and directing complement the unique structure of the movie. There is no real three act structure, but instead a journey through the senior year of the two protagonists and all of the emotional ups and downs that they experience."
Doukyuusei passes our bar of Culturally Relevant Queer Films by being the first gay animated film to be showed in theaters in Japan. We will be screening the film with Japanese audio and English subtitles.
