SELF SUSPENSION PRACTICUM: FROM THE GROUND UP
Six Hour Rope Intensive: Applied Practicum and Group-Think
Self suspension can be a style of self expression; why should it be limited to replicating other’s forms? This is a class that hopes to engage self suspenders’ critical thinking, give them some new tools to use, as well as new styles to consider. Often, this art is limited to the idea/ideal of photographable performance art, but it can also be used so many other ways including: exercise, script-flipper service submission, an adrenaline boost to prepare for other scenes, or even just a chance for riggers to better understand body mechanics in rope and it’s toll on the body.
In this class, Raiju will lead discussions and encourage hands-on experimenting with the limits, uses, and benefits of different self-suspension styles. We’ll also cover risk assessment consideration, emergency planning and self-advocating, self-monitoring and pacing, stretches, and take-home exercises.
*This class's pace will be easier if attendees come in with prior knowledge of single columns, uplines, and how their body feels in rope. This is an applied critical thinking practicum to enable self suspenders to share and consider new angles for their work. A rope kit and safety tools are required. Carabiners, swivel, ring, and underbust steel boned corset are optional.
Raiju, a.k.a. Riah (perceived pronouns: she/he), is a switchy Columbus-based kinkster who enjoys enabling exploration of the shape and bounds of "the box" in kink, rope, and non-monogamy. Raiju uses critical thinking tools, an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and their varied travels and perspectives to help build paths to deeper understanding and greater skills for the initiate, the adept, and even the expert.
